new blog! and the final pages of amalapropos

Hello friends--

After a lot of thought (and more coding than I could have imagined), I've decided to start an entirely new blog, and close down shop for amalapropos. I'm moving to a more professional platform, with a domain name that you can actually pronounce, in hopes of going to bigger and better things in the future.

Consider this simply a transition to a better place-- a continuation, if you will, of all the things I've been doing on amalapropos, but with more structure, focus, and professionalism.

So what's this new blog that I've started? Pardon the narcissism (and laugh all you want), but the new blog is called:

(And to correspond with this shift in names, you can also find me on twitter as @jeanniehuang.)

I hope to see you there-- this concludes any posting done on amalapropos, but I'm sure that you'll find my new blog to be just as interesting if not more polished than before.

Thanks for sticking around, see you on the flip side...

illegal rainbows (that i want to duplicate)

Swissmiss posted up a link to these "illegal rainbows", which have become a source of heated controversy in Albuquerque, apparently (although part of me wants to ask if any of the "I-hate-graffiti" people have ever heard of Banksy-- you guys are fighting over rainbows? Ha.) These rainbows are fun and splashy and non-threatening in every way, which makes me wonder if we could have an illegal DOUBLE RAINBOW pop up somewhere on the interwebz next. (An illegal double rainbow is a clear indication of gays and terrorists, obviously.)

Quick, someone do this on the side of my apartment building!

2000 vs. 2010

Scarily real infographic of the day: a chart, depicting the years 2000 to 2010 in comparison to one another:

Via Blame It on the Voices

I'm no expert, but those loooooong green bars in the "Environment" section, particularly the "People killed by national disasters worldwide" section, is shocking and upsetting. Hope 2011 fares better than that...
